First Time Using Chat Squeeze: From Shopify Install to Sales Insights

Welcome to Chat Squeeze. This guide walks you through the first setup of your Shopify AI sales assistant: connecting your store, syncing products, importing store knowledge, customizing the chat widget, turning it live, and using the dashboard to review conversations, leads, and AI-attributed sales.

Chat Squeeze is a Shopify AI sales assistant that learns a store's products and policies, answers shopper questions in chat, recommends products, captures leads, and shows you which conversations and sales came from the AI assistant.

Some setup happens automatically after Shopify installation. Other steps are controlled by you so the assistant matches your store's brand, policies, and selling style. Use this guide when you are installing Chat Squeeze for the first time or checking that your store is ready before sending live traffic to the assistant.

What is the quick setup checklist?

The first-time setup path starts with Shopify installation and ends with dashboard review. Move through these steps in order, then use Chat history, Collected leads, and Sales & analytics to improve the assistant from real shopper behavior.

  • Install Chat Squeeze from Shopify and open the app.
  • Let Chat Squeeze create your workspace and sync your product catalog.
  • Customize your assistant name, language, welcome message, and colors.
  • Import your store pages, policies, FAQ content, or files into Knowledge base.
  • Generate or edit AI instructions.
  • Choose a plan or continue with Playground.
  • Preview the assistant.
  • Turn the widget on in Shopify Theme Editor.
  • Review Chat history, Collected leads, and Sales & analytics after shoppers interact with it.

What setup does Chat Squeeze handle automatically?

After the Shopify app is installed and opened, Chat Squeeze handles the technical setup in the background. This lets you focus on brand, policies, and selling style instead of data plumbing.

  • Creates the account and workspace needed for your dashboard.
  • Connects your Shopify store to Chat Squeeze.
  • Creates the default AI assistant for your store.
  • Starts your initial Shopify product sync.
  • Registers Shopify updates so paid plans can keep product data up to date.
  • Detects your store name and, when available, your store language.
  • Loads your Shopify pages and policies during onboarding so your store knowledge can be imported faster.
  • Tracks shopper conversations after the widget is live.
  • Tracks product interactions such as add to cart and view on store when shoppers use product cards.
  • Records leads after a shopper submits a lead form.
  • Attributes sales when your Shopify order data can be connected to Chat Squeeze interactions.

What do you still control manually?

You still make the business decisions. You decide how the assistant sounds, what extra store knowledge it should know, which plan fits your store, when the widget appears on the storefront, and how leads and analytics are reviewed.

  • Confirm or edit your assistant name, store language, welcome message, and colors.
  • Add your policy pages, FAQ pages, files, or pasted text that are not covered by product sync.
  • Review generated AI instructions before relying on them.
  • Pick a plan and approve Shopify billing if you choose a paid plan.
  • Enable the Chat Squeeze theme app embed in Shopify Theme Editor.
  • Configure lead capture triggers, email notifications, and webhook URL if using lead capture.
  • Adjust product card buttons, order tracking labels, and proactive popup messages.
  • Review your conversations, leads, and sales data inside the dashboard.

How does first-time onboarding work?

Onboarding prepares the assistant, imports the most important store context, and gets you ready to test before going live. The product catalog is handled first because product knowledge powers recommendations, product cards, and product questions in chat.

Step 1: Launch Squeeze

What you see:

  • A welcome setup screen for launching Chat Squeeze on your Shopify store.
  • Messaging around getting Squeeze ready to sell for your store.

What Chat Squeeze handles for you:

  • Chat Squeeze has already connected your Shopify store through the app install flow.
  • Your default assistant and dashboard workspace are prepared.

What you do:

  • Start setup and continue through the onboarding flow.
Start setup once. Chat Squeeze prepares your Shopify assistant, connects your store, and gets ready to learn your catalog.

Step 2: Sync products

What you see:

  • A product sync step showing progress while Chat Squeeze learns your Shopify catalog.

What Chat Squeeze handles for you:

  • Product data sync starts automatically.
  • Product sync can continue in the background.
  • On paid Shopify plans, product updates can stay synced through live catalog sync.

What you do:

  • Wait for sync progress or continue when allowed.
  • Later, if product data looks missing or outdated, open Knowledge base and use Shopify Products > View & Resync.
Chat Squeeze learns your products first, so it can recommend items, answer product questions, and power product cards in chat.

Step 3: Make it yours

What you see:

  • Store name.
  • Store language.
  • Welcome message.
  • Theme presets and color controls.
  • Live chat preview.

What Chat Squeeze handles for you:

  • Store language can be detected from Shopify settings when available.
  • Defaults are applied for your selected language and storefront chat behavior.

What you do:

  • Edit the assistant name or store name if needed.
  • Choose the language shoppers should receive.
  • Write or edit the first welcome message.
  • Choose a theme preset or custom colors.
Make the assistant feel like part of your store. Choose the language, greeting, colors, and first impression before going live.

Step 4: Upload pages and import store knowledge

What you see:

  • Suggested pages and policies from your store, such as shipping, returns, FAQ, About, and Contact.
  • Your detected Shopify pages when available.
  • A manual URL field for adding pages that were not detected.
  • Processing or completed statuses for imported pages.

What Chat Squeeze handles for you:

  • Chat Squeeze loads available Shopify pages and policies.
  • During onboarding, missing detected pages can be added to your assistant's knowledge sources.
  • The dashboard tracks whether each source is pending, processing, completed, or failed.

What you do:

  • Confirm your important pages are included.
  • Add any extra public URL manually.
  • Wait for processing to finish before testing those answers.
Products are synced automatically, but store policies are your source of truth. Import shipping, returns, sizing, FAQ, About, and Contact pages so shoppers get accurate answers.

Step 5: Generate instructions

What you see:

  • An option to generate store instructions from products and knowledge pages.

What Chat Squeeze handles for you:

  • Chat Squeeze can generate a first draft of assistant instructions using your catalog and imported knowledge.

What you do:

  • Click Generate, or skip this step.
  • Review and later edit the instructions in General settings if needed.
Generate a first playbook for how your AI should respond. You can edit the instructions anytime as your store changes.

Step 6: Choose your plan

What you see:

  • Plan options, including a paid trial path and Playground path.

What Chat Squeeze handles for you:

  • Billing is handled through Shopify.
  • After you confirm Shopify billing, Chat Squeeze updates your plan and completes onboarding.

What you do:

  • Choose a plan.
  • Approve Shopify billing for paid plans.
  • Continue with Playground if you want the free testing option.
Pick the plan that matches your store size. Playground includes up to 2,000 products for maximum testing and 50 AI messages total. Paid Shopify plans start at $22.99/month and include a 30-day free trial.

How do you turn Chat Squeeze live on the Shopify store?

After onboarding, the assistant is configured but you still need to make it visible on the storefront. Chat Squeeze can check the Shopify app embed status and show whether the widget is On, Off, Needs attention, Unknown, or Checking.

  1. Open the available "Live on store" or setup control.
  2. Open Shopify Theme Editor from the setup dialog.
  3. Enable the Chat Squeeze app embed or block.
  4. Click Save in Shopify Theme Editor.
  5. Return to Chat Squeeze and confirm the live status.
Chat Squeeze cannot turn on the Shopify theme embed without your approval. Open Theme Editor, toggle Chat Squeeze on, save, and your assistant can appear on the live storefront.

How should you import store knowledge?

Products sync from Shopify automatically, but policies and FAQs need your review. Use Knowledge base for everything your products do not say: shipping rules, return windows, sizing guidance, warranty details, contact details, and store-specific FAQs.

  • Products: synced from Shopify automatically. If product answers look outdated, resync from Knowledge base using Shopify Products > View & Resync.
  • Pages: import shipping, returns, FAQ, About, Contact, sizing, warranty, and policy pages from detected Shopify pages or public URLs.
  • Files or text: upload supported FAQ or policy files, or paste custom answers directly when the information does not live on a public store page.

What can you review in the dashboard?

The dashboard is where setup turns into operational feedback. Use each area for a specific job: configure the assistant, test it, activate it, and learn from the conversations, leads, and sales it influences.

Overview

Use it for: Your home screen for recent AI sales activity and quick navigation.

  • AI-attributed revenue for the last 30 days.
  • Orders, add to cart count, conversion rate, recent conversations, and recent leads.
  • Links to Sales & analytics, Chat history, and Collected leads.

Chat Squeeze handles: Numbers load from tracked Chat Squeeze conversations, product interactions, leads, and attributed Shopify orders.

Your next step: Open deeper pages when you want details, and remember that Overview shows Chat Squeeze-attributed activity, not total Shopify revenue.

Knowledge base

Use it for: Use this for the non-product knowledge your AI needs: shipping, returns, sizing, warranties, FAQs, brand details, contact details, and special store policies.

  • Import a Shopify page or public page URL.
  • Upload supported FAQ or policy files.
  • Paste a text source.
  • Use the Shopify Products card for product sync status and resync.

Chat Squeeze handles: Your Shopify products sync separately from knowledge sources, detected pages can be loaded during onboarding, and source statuses show whether content is ready.

Your next step: Add or update your policy and FAQ sources, wait for processing, reprocess sources after page changes, and use Shopify Products > View & Resync when product answers look outdated.

General settings

Use it for: Use this to control your assistant identity, behavior, language, appearance, launcher position, quick start messages, and order tracking enablement.

  • Store name, welcome message, store language, input placeholder, and context subheader.
  • Quick start messages and instructions.
  • Widget colors, launcher size and position, right-to-left layout, and hide on mobile.
  • Order Tracking Chat toggle.

Chat Squeeze handles: Defaults are created during onboarding, and AI-generated instructions may be available depending on plan and cooldown.

Your next step: Save your changes, test the preview or storefront, and use Knowledge base rather than Instructions for long FAQ libraries.

Interactive elements

Use it for: Use this to control product card buttons and order tracking display inside your shopper chat widget.

  • Currency symbol.
  • Show or hide Add to Cart, View on Store, and View Collection.
  • Add to Cart button text.
  • Order tracking mode, tracking page URL, labels, and messages.

Chat Squeeze handles: Product cards use synced Shopify product data, and collection links depend on available collection data.

Your next step: Choose which product card actions to show, add your valid HTTPS tracking page URL for redirect mode, and enable Order Tracking Chat in General settings before expecting order tracking to appear.

Lead capture

Use it for: Use this to let the AI show a form when a shopper asks for help, a human, a quote, a demo, sizing help, or another configured intent.

  • Automation master toggle.
  • Notification email and HTTPS webhook URL for tools like Make or Zapier.
  • AI automation triggers, default Talk to Human trigger, and custom lead types.
  • Form heading, submit button text, name, email, phone, and custom fields.

Chat Squeeze handles: The AI can trigger forms when shopper intent matches an enabled trigger. Captured contacts appear in Collected leads after submission, and notification email or webhook delivery can fire when configured.

Your next step: Enable Automation, turn on at least one trigger, write clear trigger descriptions, and follow up with leads outside Chat Squeeze unless you connect an external workflow.

Proactive popups

Use it for: Use these to invite shoppers into chat before they manually open the widget.

  • Main Pill popup switch.
  • Generic popup for regular pages.
  • Product popup for product pages and Collection popup for collection pages.
  • Popup text, {pageName} token, action buttons, delay timing, and auto-hide timing.

Chat Squeeze handles: Product and Collection popups take priority over Generic popups on matching pages. Chat Squeeze limits repeat popups so the same shopper does not see another proactive popup from the same bot for 24 hours.

Your next step: Turn popup types on, write short helpful messages, and test in a fresh browser or incognito window because of the 24-hour re-show rule.

Preview

Use it for: Use this to test how your assistant looks and behaves before relying on live traffic.

  • Preview uses current dashboard settings and synced or imported knowledge when ready.

Chat Squeeze handles: The preview reflects current settings and available knowledge sources.

Your next step: Ask test questions about products, shipping, returns, sizing, discounts, and store policies, then fix weak answers by improving Knowledge base or General settings instructions.

Chat history

Use it for: Use this to review shopper conversations with your customer-facing assistant.

  • Review full transcripts.
  • Search conversations and filter by date.
  • Filter by shopper action, such as add to cart, view on store, or purchase when available.
  • Open product, collection, order tracking, and lead form context inside conversations.

Chat Squeeze handles: Conversations appear after shoppers start chats, and action badges appear when matching tracked events or attribution exists.

Your next step: Select conversations, review transcripts, use bad or incomplete answers as a signal to update Knowledge base, and clear filters if a conversation looks missing.

Collected leads

Use it for: Use this to review contacts captured by lead forms in chat.

  • Review name, email, phone, and custom fields.
  • Search by contact details and filter by date.
  • Open the related conversation when a session is linked.
  • Use email or phone to follow up outside Chat Squeeze.

Chat Squeeze handles: Leads appear only after a shopper submits a form, and lead fields reflect the trigger and form setup from Lead capture.

Your next step: Configure lead capture first, follow up with each lead, and check notification email or webhook delivery separately.

Sales & analytics

Use it for: Use this to see how Chat Squeeze contributes to your Shopify performance.

  • AI-attributed revenue and attributed orders.
  • Add-to-cart actions, view-on-store actions, and conversion rate.
  • Date range selector, revenue chart, attribution source breakdown, and product-level sales or interaction breakdowns.

Chat Squeeze handles: Metrics populate from your Shopify attribution, chat sessions, product card interactions, and order records when that data is available.

Your next step: Choose date ranges, compare add-to-cart, view-on-store, and orders, and remember this is Chat Squeeze-attributed revenue, not total Shopify store revenue.

Billing

Use it for: Use this to review your current plan, usage, upgrade or downgrade options, Shopify billing, and feature limits.

  • Current plan, messages used, and products synced.
  • Plan cards and upgrade, downgrade, or cancel actions.
  • Shopify billing trust messaging.

Chat Squeeze handles: Shopify handles billing approval and subscription state, and dashboard usage reflects tracked plan usage.

Your next step: Choose a plan, approve plan changes in Shopify, and upgrade when you need higher product limits, higher message limits, real-time product sync, or other plan-based features.

How should you read pricing during setup?

Pricing should match the current Shopify plan structure. Playground is free and includes up to 2,000 products for maximum testing and 50 AI messages total. Paid Shopify plans start with Starter at $22.99/month, followed by Growth at $45.99/month, Pro at $89.99/month, and Enterprise at $169.99/month. Paid plans include a 30-day free trial and Shopify handles billing approval.

Use Billing when you need to review your current plan, message usage, products synced, upgrade or downgrade actions, and Shopify billing state. Upgrade when your store needs higher product limits, higher message limits, real-time product sync, or other plan-based features.

How do you learn from real shopper activity?

Once the widget is live, real conversations become your improvement loop. Read Chat history to spot missing knowledge, use Collected leads to follow up with captured contacts, and use Sales & analytics to understand revenue, orders, add to cart, view on store, conversion, and product performance attributed to Chat Squeeze.

If an answer is weak, update Knowledge base for missing facts or General settings > Instructions for tone and behavior. If leads are empty, confirm Lead capture is enabled, at least one trigger is active, and shoppers are submitting the form. If sales numbers differ from Shopify Admin, remember that Chat Squeeze shows attributed activity rather than total store revenue.

FAQ

Is product sync automatic?
Yes. Chat Squeeze starts syncing your Shopify products during setup. Playground includes up to 2,000 products for maximum testing and 50 AI messages total. Paid Shopify plans can use live catalog sync, and you can resync from Knowledge base > Shopify Products > View & Resync.
Are policies and FAQs automatic too?
Partly. Chat Squeeze can detect Shopify pages during onboarding, but you should confirm the important pages are imported. For missing policies or FAQs, add a public page URL, upload a supported file, or paste text into Knowledge base.
Do I need to edit my Shopify theme code?
No. Enable the Chat Squeeze app embed in Shopify Theme Editor and click Save. Normal setup does not require theme code changes.
Why do sales numbers differ from Shopify Admin?
Sales & analytics shows Chat Squeeze-attributed revenue and actions, not total Shopify store revenue.
Why are leads empty?
Leads appear only after Lead capture is enabled, at least one trigger is active, and a shopper submits a lead form.
Where do I fix bad answers?
Use Knowledge base for missing policies, FAQs, sizing, returns, shipping, or brand information. Use General settings > Instructions for tone and behavior guidance.
